Our Goals

Preservation of nature while ensuring sustained industrial growth where everyone wins

our mission

Story of Inception

Dakshina Kannada (DK) faces a severe electricity shortage, yet local opposition to power projects has persisted. Electricity is as essential as salt in food, making it crucial to support pollution-controlled power projects in DK.

Employment opportunities in the region have plummeted, with a 90% decline in city and Gulf jobs. Thousands of graduates and undergraduates remain underemployed or working in low-paying jobs unrelated to their qualifications. The youth are disinterested in agriculture, and opportunities in other cities have diminished, leading to widespread frustration.

DK’s economy, once driven by agriculture, is deteriorating. Agriculture has declined by 90% due to high labor costs, falling prices of coconut, areca nut, paddy, rice, and reduced fishing and Beedi businesses. To address these challenges, it is vital to industrialize 10% of DK’s land, protecting the environment while encouraging pollution-controlled industries to provide alternative income sources and foster overall development.

DK, a coastal district with excellent infrastructure, holds significant potential for industrialization. Unlike Bangalore, DK has a port, facilitating better transportation of raw materials and finished goods. Industrializing 10% of DK’s land will optimize the use of Karnataka’s only port and the Konkan Railway project, generating revenue and enabling government profits.

These challenges prompted the formation of Samiti, with the slogan:

“Nela-Jala Ulisi, Uddime Belesi, Pragati Sadhisi”
(“Protect Land and Water, Promote Industry, Achieve Progress”)

Samiti advocates for protecting the environment while supporting industrialization that meets international emission standards and utilizes effluent treatment and water recycling plants.

CAPTAIN GANESH KARNIK's
views about the Samiti

It gives me immense pleasure to be amongst you this evening, having gathered here to deliberate on the possibilities of further Industrialization of Coastal Karnataka for achieving prosperity and generating employment for ensuring economic growth for its people, by way of industrialization. I will be failing in my duty, while representing the people of the Coast, if I don’t gratefully acknowledge the immense contributions made by Jaya Shree Krishna Parisara Premi Samithi, founded by Sri Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty, for promoting a balanced economic development along coastal Karnataka.

During the past two decades of its existence, while there was stiff resistance for any kind of new industries being considered, this Samithi took it upon itself to promote a balanced approach towards addressing the genuine concerns of environmentalist’s and also promoting investments for industrialization, ushering in economic prosperity along the Coast. Samithi has made significant contributions in promoting the upgradation of Mangalore Airport, getting extension granted for Kuduremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd (KIOCL), establishment of Udupi Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL), promotion of Mangalore-Bangalore Broad Gauge Rail link and in establishment of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) besides assisting the government and people in addressing the genuine concerns of various interest groups .

I would like to place on record our sincere gratitude for your professional approach in addressing the concerns of local people for a sustainable and balanced approach for promotion of industrialization along Coastal part of Karnataka. Coastal Karnataka, earlier known as Kanara District, now consists of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada Districts, with a total population of about 45 lakhs.Today the district has the distinction of having 9 Medical Colleges, 22 Engineering Colleges, NITK at Surathkal, 1 Government University, and 4 Private Universities, providing all types of general and professional education in their well established campuses. Mangalore University, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Nitte University, Yenepoya University, Srinivas University, SDM Group of Institutions, KVG Sullia, Canara Group of Institutions, Vivekananda Education Society, Sharada Group are a few to mention.

To conclude, “The measure of progress of a civilization is the progress of its people. We should so live and labour in our times that what came to us as seed may go to the next generation as Blossom; and that which came to us as Blossom may go to them a Fruit…….. that is what we mean by progress”.Jayashreekirshna Parisara Premi Samiti and the dynamic Leadership of Founder Thonse Jayakrishna A.Shetty is exactly promoting above objectives for the last more than two decades. Let’s all support their Vision and Mission.
