DK’s economy, once driven by agriculture, is deteriorating. Agriculture has declined by 90% due to high labor costs, falling prices of coconut, areca nut, paddy, rice, and reduced fishing and Beedi businesses. To address these challenges, it is vital to industrialize 10% of DK’s land, protecting the environment while encouraging pollution-controlled industries to provide alternative income sources and foster overall development.
DK, a coastal district with excellent infrastructure, holds significant potential for industrialization. Unlike Bangalore, DK has a port, facilitating better transportation of raw materials and finished goods. Industrializing 10% of DK’s land will optimize the use of Karnataka’s only port and the Konkan Railway project, generating revenue and enabling government profits.
These challenges prompted the formation of Samiti, with the slogan:
“Nela-Jala Ulisi, Uddime Belesi, Pragati Sadhisi”
(“Protect Land and Water, Promote Industry, Achieve Progress”)
Samiti advocates for protecting the environment while supporting industrialization that meets international emission standards and utilizes effluent treatment and water recycling plants.
